When asked how she would “measure success” from the outcome of tomorrow’s contests Clinton replied “winning, winning, winning, that’s my measure of success.”

Clinton said she would take her message on to “Pennsylvania and states ahead,” a proclamation neither she nor her aides have made much since Senator Barack Obama won 11 February contests in a row.

The New York senator remained mainly positive during her first two stops of the day, jettisoning much of the tough rhetoric from over the weekend about Obama’s lack of readiness to be commander-in-chief. Instead she referenced her “lifetime of experience” and pointed to the various endorsements she enjoys from former military officers as examples of why she is primed to occupy the Oval Office.

--Excerpt courtesy CNN Political Ticker

Hillary's Texas Excitement!

What Can I Do?

We as Hillary Supporters abroad can't vote in Texas. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) continued to criticize the media's coverage of rival Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on Tuesday, saying the "media has relished [Clinton's] fall with glee." Obama's campaign claimed the same day that they were being bombarded with "kitchen sink" attacks.

"The media does not like the Clintons for whatever reason. Maybe some of it's [the Clintons'] fault, but the media does not like the Clintons...[they have] relished this fall with glee that I have never seen in any other candidate in the thirty years I have been in the business," Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said in an interview with the Washington Post published on Tuesday.

Rendell, a close friend of former President Bill Clinton and former chair of the Democratic National Committee, endorsed Clinton in January. He was quoted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette two weeks ago as saying "there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate." His recent statement about the Obama's media coverage was issued a day after Clinton's communications director, Howard Wolfson, accused journalists of being partial to Obama.

"I think it is true that every time the Obama campaign in this campaign has attacked Sen. Clinton in the worst kind of personal ways, attacked her veracity, attacked her credibility, said that she would say or do anything to get elected, the press has largely applauded him. When we have attempted to make contrasts with Senator Obama, we have been criticized for it. That is a fact of life that we labor under," Wolfson said during a conference call.

"I reject the notion that Sen. Clinton has been engaged in this sort of seriatim attacks on Sen. Obama. I think Sen. Obama's entire campaign against Senator Clinton is negative. I think he has run against her as the status quo. He has essentially called her divisive. He has called her untruthful. He has questioned her credibility. He has said she will do or say anything to get elected. If that's not negative, I don't know what is," he said.

--Excerpt from AllHeadlineNews.com
--Image from FinancialTimes.com

Obama's Questionable Ties

Obama's Farrakhan Dilemma

Here's what a spokesperson for Democratic Presidential contender Barack Obama said when he got wind of former Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan's virtual endorsement of Obama's White House bid: "Senator Obama has been clear in his objections to Minister Farrakhan's past pronouncements and has not solicited the minister's support." Farrakhan made the glowing tout of Obama at the NOI's annual Savior's Day confab in Chicago. Obama's denunciation of Farrakhan was blunt and pointed. But he did not reject Farrakhan's implied endorsement.

Even after Hillary Clinton publicly demanded that he forcefully reject Farrakhan's endorsement, Obama waffled. He weakly said after more Clinton cajoling that he rejected the endorsement. He still did not mention Farrakhan by name. A candidate shouldn't need to be prodded by his opponent to emphatically reject the endorsement of a controversial, and in the case of Farrakhan, much vilified figure.

--Excerpt from The Huffington Post

Hillary vows to act tough on China

Washington (PTI): Accusing the Bush administration for failing to make China play by global market rules, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton vowed to change Washington's policy towards Beijing if she is elected to the Oval office.

Mrs Clinton launched a vitriolic attack against China during a wide ranging foreign policy speech at the George Washington University, where she also slammed the Republican government for allowing the Chinese government "to become our banker".

"Today, China is most obviously the world's largest and one of its fastest growing economies. Ferraro

Superdelegates were created to lead, not to follow. They were, and are, expected to determine what is best for the Democratic Party and best for the country.

Today, with the possibility that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will end up with about the same number of delegates after all 50 states have held their primaries and caucuses, the pundits and many others are saying that superdelegates should not decide who the nominee will be. That decision, they say, should rest with the rank-and-file Democrats who went to the polls and voted.

But the superdelegates were created to lead, not to follow. They were, and are, expected to determine what is best for our party and best for the country. I would hope that is why many superdelegates have already chosen a candidate to support.

Besides, the delegate totals from primaries and caucuses do not necessarily reflect the will of rank-and-file Democrats. Most Democrats have not been heard from at the polls. We have all been impressed by the turnout for this year's primaries -- clearly both candidates have excited and engaged the party's membership -- but, even so, turnout for primaries and caucuses is notoriously low. It would be shocking if 30 percent of registered Democrats have participated.

If that is the case, we could end up with a nominee who has been actively supported by, at most, 15 percent of registered Democrats. That's hardly a grassroots mandate.

More important, although many states like New York have closed primaries in which only enrolled Democrats are allowed to vote, in many other states Republicans and independents can make the difference by voting in Democratic primaries or caucuses.

In the Democratic primary in South Carolina, tens of thousands of Republicans and independents no doubt voted, many of them for Mr. Obama. The same rules prevail at the Iowa caucuses, in which Mr. Obama also triumphed.

He won his delegates fair and square, but those delegates represent the wishes not only of grassroots Democrats, but also Republicans and independents. If rank-and-file Democrats should decide who the party's nominee is, each state should pass a rule allowing only people who have been registered in the Democratic Party for a given time -- not nonmembers or day-of registrants -- to vote for the party's nominee.

Click Here to see entire column.

--Excerpt from Der Spiegel

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wakeuptexas.blogspot.com/2008/02/got-problem-ask-super.html' title='Got a problem? A white actor played Mr Obama in a sketch parodying the latest Democratic debate. The moderator confessed that she had been “clinically diagnosed as an Obamamaniac”.

Uncle Wiggly, a blogger on www.mydd.com, observed: “This will become a big deal inside the media ‘village’. I live in DC and know that every single political reporter and pundit fool watches every [ Saturday Night Live] during election time and all saw or will see this. They were or will be shocked, I mean quite shocked, to find out that they were the ones being ridiculed.”

David Brooks, a columnist for The New York Times, has diagnosed the mood swing felt by many liberals as “Obama Comedown Syndrome”.

“The afflicted had already been through the phases of Obamamania - fainting at rallies, weeping over their touch screens while watching Obama videos, spending hours making folk crafts featuring Michelle Obama’s face. These patients had experienced intense surges of hope-amine, the brain chemical that fuels euphoric sensations of historic change and personal salvation,” Mr Brooks wrote.

“But they found that as the weeks went on, they needed more and purer hope-injections just to preserve the rush. They wound up craving more hope than even the Hope Pope could provide, and they began experiencing brooding moments of suboptimal hopefulness. Anxious posts began to appear on the Yes We Can! Facebook pages. A sense of ennui began to creep through the nation’s Ian McEwan-centered book clubs.”

--Excerpt from TimesOnline.com

Bill stumps for Hillary

President Clinton stumps for wife in Arlington

ARLINGTON — Former President Clinton portrayed his wife on Sunday as a pragmatic leader and her opponent in the Democratic presidential primary as too inexperienced to handle the job.

"Should we make a new beginning with somebody not involved in either the problems of this decade or the progress of last?" These focus on her long-term advocacy of children.

As a law student Hillary worked to identify children who were victims of abuse and neglect and volunteered at the New Haven Legal Services offices. Her first job out of law school was going door-to-door with the Children's Defense Fund to find out why children weren’t enrolled in public schools. Her findings prompted Congress to pass laws ensuring that kids with disabilities were accommodated and taught in our public schools (setting up programs in which my son and countless others have benefited enormously).

When Reagan was President, Hillary was Chairman of the Legal Services corporation - legal services for the poor. In a head-to-head battle with the President, she successfully fought Reagan off when he tried to shift $300 million legal services to defense spending.

In Arkansas Hillary ran the University of Arkansas's legal aid and prison projects; reformed Arkansas' education system; instituted a model parent education program; created new scholarships for single parents; and expanded medical facilities in Arkansas' poorest areas.

As First Lady Hillary helped create the State Children's Health Insurance Program; spearheaded efforts to double child care spending, dramatically expand Head Start, and create Early Head Start; and expanded the federal after school program to a $1 billion formula grant program that reaches every state.

--Excerpt from Daily Kos

Obama's Dirty Mail

Clinton rips Obama over campaign mailings

CINCINNATI — Hillary Rodham Clinton said on Saturday that a pair of mailings sent to voters by rival Barack Obama's campaign criticizing her health care plan and trade views are false, misleading and a betrayal of his pledge to practice a new style of politics.

"Shame on you, Barack Obama. You support Hillary or are leaning her way and she's up in the Texas polls. I does not matter. You could still be "OBAMAIZED". Yes, this is a real phenomena that is sweeping the county. Obviously it has made 10 states and even Democrats abroad delusional. Sure, I say most of that in jest. However, doesn't it feel like the truth? Hillary was just weeks ago shattering the science of polling by handily winning New Hampshire and going on to take many other states. Then something happened. The media was the first to become "Obamaized". Then a few states decided that motivational speaking was more important than offering real solutions to real problems.

This is EXACTLY how made it so close in 2000. Keep it general. If you offer no specifics there is less to criticize. The second you start providing solutions, people start knit-picking and beating it to death. Hillary has been brave enough to offer solutions and Obama has not. Now we're in a tie and looking like the nomination with be decided in a back room that will no doubt cause hard feelings.

Don't become "Obamaized"! Sure, he's handsome, a great orator and becoming a great leader. He's a Democrat to be proud of and respect. He'd be a great Vice President.

Do what you can to make sure your friends and neighbors aren't becoming OBAMAIZED!!! =)

The Texas Debate

I was so proud of both candidates tonight, but Hillary was great. Some great quotes from Hillary:

On Cuban relations: "...a presidential visit should not be offered and given without some evidence that it will demonstrate the kind of progress that is in our interest and, in this case, in the interest of the Cuban people."

On diplomatic negotiations: "... I want to send a very clear message, to the rest of the world, that the era of unilateralism, preemption and arrogance, of the Bush administration, is over. And we're going to start working together."

On tax loopholes: "The wealthy and the well-connected have had a president for the last seven years. And I think it's time that the rest of America had a president who works for you every single day."

On mortgage foreclosures: "So I would put a moratorium for 90 days to give us time to work out a way for people to stay in their homes, and I would freeze interest rates for five years because these adjustable-rate mortgages, if they keep going up, millions of Americans are going to be homeless and vacant homes will be across the neighborhoods of Texas and America."

On America's future: "...we need to end George Bush's war on science, which has been waged...and we've got a lot of ground to cover. So I want to think about how we fund the future. We've got to get back to being the innovation nation. Think of everything that goes on at this great university to create the new economy."

On immigration reform: "...when we see what's been happening with literally babies being left with no one to take care of them, children coming home from school, no responsible adult left -- that is not the America that I know. That is against American values. And it is -- it is a stark admission of failure by the federal government."

On illegal immigrants: "...we need a path to legalization to bring the immigrants out of the shadows, give them the conditions that we expect them to meet: paying a fine for coming here illegally, trying to pay back taxes over time, and learning English. If they had committed a crime in our country or the country they came from, then they should be deported. But for everyone else, there must be a path to legalization. I would introduce that in the first 100 days of my presidency."

On border security: "...this is how absurd this has become under the Bush administration because, you know, there is a smart way to protect our borders and there is a dumb way to protect our borders.-- I would have a review. I would listen to the people who live along the border, who understand what it is we need to be doing to protect our country."

On English as official language: "I do think that English does remain an important part of the American experience, so I encourage people to become bilingual, but I also want to see English remain the common unifying language of our country."

On GW Bush: "I think our next president needs to be a lot less hat and a lot more cattle."

On Obama's rhetoric: "...I do think that words are important and words matter, but actions speak louder than words..."

On Obama's 'borrowed' words: "...lifting whole passages from someone else's speeches is not change you can believe in; it's change you can Xerox."

On their differences: "I just believe that we've got to look hard at the difficult challenges we face, especially after George Bush leaves the White House. The world will breathe a sigh of relief once he is gone. We all know that. But then we've got to do the hard work of not just bringing the country together, but overcoming a lot of the entrenched opposition to the very ideas that both of us believe in and for some of us have been fighting for a very long time."

On healthcare: "I don't want to leave anybody out. I see the results of leaving people out. I am tired of health insurance companies deciding who will live or die in America. That has to end."

On experience: "...for more than 15 years I've been honored to represent our country in more than 80 countries to negotiate on matters such opening borders for refugees during the war in Kosovo, to stand up for women's rights and human rights around the world."

On readiness: "...when you think about everything that is going to happen, what we can predict and what we cannot predict, I believe that I am prepared and ready on day one to be commander in chief, to be the president, to turn our economy around, and to begin making a lot of these very difficult decisions that we will inherit from George Bush. And that is what I am putting forth to the voters."

In closing: "...the hits I've taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country. And I resolved at a very young age that I'd been blessed, and that I was called by my faith and by my upbringing to do what I could to give others the same opportunities and blessings that I took for granted. That's what gets me up in the morning. That's what motivates me in this campaign."

Texas PrimaCaucus?

What in the world is this we hear? On March 4th, Democrats will have both a primary and a caucus to award delegates. Seriously? How confusing can we make this process in America?!?

The Texas PrimaCaucus, as it's being referred to, is explained by KEYETV.com (Channel 42 in Austin). Here are a few key points to know:

Registration: If you're not already registered, it is unfortunately past the deadline for March 4. If you are not sure, contact your County Clerk's office to verify registration and your polling place.

The Precinct Convention: After everyone votes, the precinct conventions, which on the Democratic side will serve also as a presidential caucus, will be held after the polls close. The precinct conventions will select delegates to the county conventions, which will select delegates to the state conventions, which will select delegates to the national conventions. Democrats will meet in each precinct at each polling place at 7:15 p.m.

The Process: Texas has a total of 228 delegates. First, 126 delegates will be chosen proportionately according to the primary vote. The next 67 delegates will be chosen by the caucus process while 35 delegates are Super Delegates. The caucus process begins at the precinct conventions and is completed at the Texas Democratic State Convention. These delegates are chosen from each state senatorial district based on the district's number of Democratic votes tallied in the 2006 race for governor and the 2004 vote for president.

Bottom Line: Vote for Hillary in the primary and attend your precinct convention to caucus for her. I personally have voted in Florida and do not yet know if it will count. As polls show Senator Clinton leading in Ohio and Pennsylvania, it now appears to be in the hands of Texans.

Yes, you poor Texans. Under so many years of George W. Bush, it is no wonder that Republicans and Independents will join Democrats in choosing between Senator Clinton and Senator Obama. We need you become informed and understand that while we completely respect Senator Obama as great orator and public servant he is not ready for the position of Commander-in-Chief. Hillary Clinton is experienced and will lead from the first minute of her presidency.

Please WAKE UP TEXAS!
